Reynaldo Tayag

Rey is one of several of our Directors of the Board who completed their university degrees later than the usual time. This is because of their commitment to their values and what they believed is right.

After graduating from the University of the Philippines (UP) in Los Banos in 1979 with a B.S. in Agriculture, he pursued post graduate studies while working, completing an M.A. in Community Development at the UP College of Social Work and Community Development in Diliman, Q,C. He put into maximum use the technical knowledge he learned from his studies, in both research and hands-on community development work.

1989 was a turning point in Rey’s career, when he accepted a plantilla position of a supervising project development officer at the OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration), rising from the rank, up to the level of Director, until his retirement from service in 2017. He looks back at OWWA as the institution which honed up his skills, knowledge and wisdom, highlighting his direct experiences and understanding of the real life or situation of OFWs abroad and the culture of people in countries where Rey was deployed. Most challenging were providing services and handling welfare cases to millions of Filipino contract workers in distress in various on-site offices/countries.

Rey had a total of 38 working experience in the academe, NGO, and the OWWA, and is especially proud of his non-tolerance to malpractices and corruption in all the government agencies and departments which he has headed, both domestic, and overseas.
