Jalandoni P. Sanchez
No need for a lengthy introduction to Allan, as all JASHS Batch ’70 graduates know that he was our batch’s Salutatorian. But being the quiet guy that he has been during our high school days, and still is, it is nice to get to know him better. Another one of our BOD working students, it took him 18 years to complete his studies at the University of the Philippines, working intermittently in between.
His first job was at the Ship Repair Facility at the US Naval Base in Olongapo City, and was there from 1974-1979. Like so many Filipinos wanting to try out being OFWs in a foreign land, Allan did his stint as one, in Saudi Arabia and Diego Garcia, from 1980-1985. Finally, he settled down to his final job, at the PAGCOR, starting work there from 1989, after his graduation from U.P. in 1988.
He retired in 2018, after he reached the age of 65, the mandatory retirement age for PAGCOR. Once asked what is the best game to play with better odds in a casino, he responded: “Baccarat, as the chance to win (or lose) is 50-50. But the best is, not to bet!”. Good he is already retired, and could be frank with this sage advice to all of us alumni.
Allan is now enjoying quality life with wife Neneng (the former Filomena Pilongo) in their Lakeshore residence in Mexico. Only one of their 3 children lives close by, with the 2 others deciding to build their careers and family overseas. Allan and Neneng, like all hard-working parents wanting to provide better opportunities to their children, take pride in their lawyer-son who now practices law in Sanchez and Cunanan law firm in Pampanga.
Allan and Neneng enjoy travelling together, discovering exciting places both in the Philippines and elsewhere, where their travel itch takes them.
